    Description

1843-O $2 1/2 Large Date, Plain 4 AU53 NGC. Variety 1. Second rarest O-mint quarter eagle. Only 75-85 pieces are believed known today out the original mintage of 76,000 examples -- indicating a very high attrition rate. This pale yellow-gold piece shows a faint accent of reddish patina. Even high-point friction and numerous small abrasions explain the grade.
