    1846-D/D Quarter Eagle, Choice XF
Variety 7-K, Scarce Early Die State

1846-D/D $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 7-K. The trace of a previously punched D can be seen just left of the dominant D and immediately above the 1 in the numerator. This is an earlier die state that shows significant portions of the lower part of the first D, and as such is much scarcer than other double mintmarks, and generally trades for a strong premium. This is a bright yellow-gold example that displays light, even wear over the high points and a few medium-sized field marks on the obverse.
