    Description

    1854-C Quarter Eagle, AU53+
    Better Charlotte Date

1854-C $2 1/2 AU53+ NGC. Variety 1. The 1854-C quarter eagle is scarcer than the certified population reports would suggest. Likely only 105 to 145 examples are known in all grades, these more or less evenly distributed throughout the VF, XF, and AU grade ranges. In Mint State, this issue is genuinely rare. The present Plus-graded AU coin displays medium green-gold patina with minimal abrasions. Weakness on the central eagle and the hair curls around Liberty's face is due to strike, not wear. Census: 20 in 53+, 65 finer (6/15).(Registry values: P2)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25HY, PCGS# 7770)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
