    Description

    1855-C Quarter Eagle, VF35
Lowest Mintage Charlotte Date in the Series

1855-C $2 1/2 VF35 NGC. Variety 1. Only 3,677 pieces were struck of the 1855-C quarter eagle. Of that number an estimated 85-105 pieces may exist in all grades. It is ranked second in overall rarity and a median issue in terms of high-grade rarity. Strike weakness is uniformly a problem on survivors of this issue, and this piece is soft on Liberty's hair curls and flat over much of the eagle. The obverse shows a number of small abrasions, but the reverse is remarkably clean. The muted orange-gold surfaces display light reddish patina surrounding the devices, an indication of originality.
