    1862-S Two and a Half, XF45
    Rarely Seen Issue

1862-S $2 1/2 XF45 NGC. Only 8,000 examples of the 1862-S quarter eagle were produced. It remains an overlooked issue in the series, most likely because of the length of the series and no logical type separation, such as with the five and ten dollar Liberty series with their No Motto and With Motto distinctions. Most survivors are well-worn and many are problem pieces. This example displays light color with moderate wear over the high points and average or better sharpness for this challenging S-mint issue of just 8,000 coins.
