Description

1893 Two and a Half, MS66
Bright Luster, Frosted Surfaces

1893 $2 1/2 MS66 NGC. CAC. Scarce in high Mint State grades and seldom offered with CAC endorsement, the 1893 quarter eagles were struck in a year of economic turmoil. The Panic of '93 saw many gold coins exported to Europe, where demand for gold was strong. The 1893 mintage of quarter eagles was 30,000 pieces -- a large increase over previous years -- yet Gem or finer examples are seen less frequently than the surrounding lower mintage issues. This Premium Gem is frosty and lustrous with a greenish-gold coloration, sharply struck, without any copper stains that often accompany the issue. Census: 30 in 66 (1 in 66+), 4 finer. CAC: 10 in 66, 1 finer (12/16).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25LH, PCGS# 7845, Greysheet# 8318)
