    1906 Liberty Quarter Eagle, PR66+
    Lightly Contrasted Example

1906 $2 1/2 PR66+ NGC. JD-1, R.4. A healthy mintage of 160 proof Liberty quarter eagles was achieved in 1906 and the issue enjoyed a high survival rate. John Dannreuther estimates the surviving population at 100-120 examples in all grades today. A single die pair was used to strike the entire production run. Proof diagnostics include a die line angling up from the left from the upper part of the third vertical set of stripes in the shield and a die lump in the bottom of the fifth clear stripe.

This Plus-graded Premium Gem exhibits virtually pristine lemon-yellow surfaces that include deeply mirrored fields and razor-sharp design elements on both sides. Field/device contrast is noticeable, but not designated. Overall eye appeal is outstanding. Census: 9 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (7/19).(Registry values: P1)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 288W, PCGS# 7932)
