Description

1909-S VDB Cent, MS66+ Red
Luminous CAC-Approved Piece

1909-S 1C VDB MS66+ Red PCGS. CAC. Glistening, luminous mint luster adorns this high-end Premium Gem S-VDB cent, with myriad golden-copper, orange, and autumn-red hues. Bold definition throughout the interior cedes to slight weakness around the rims, although Victor Brenner's initials are still well brought up at 6 o'clock on the reverse. On the reverse, a couple small flecks -- one at the top left of the U in UNITED and the other at the left tip of the T in CENT -- serve as pedigree markers.

The 1909-S is one of the most readily available key dates in United States coinage. However, examples become notably scarce at the upper end of the Red color category. Superb Gems are rare and far out of reach for most collectors, while Premium Gems are relatively plentiful and accessible. This Plus-designated Premium Gem balances a heightened degree of conditional rarity with a more affordable price range, and does so with a healthy dose of eye appeal. Population: 32 in 66+ Red, 17 finer. CAC: 35 in 66, 3 finer (10/24).(Registry values: N2998)
