1909-S VDB Cent, MS66 Red
Bright Yellow Tinged Color

1909-S VDB 1C MS66 Red PCGS. CAC. The 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent ranks as number 14 in Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth's 100 Greatest U.S. Coins--but many an average collector might rank it number 1 on their lists. Take a look at numbers 1-13 in Garrett and Guth: 1804 silver dollar, 1913 Liberty nickel, 1894-S dime, 1907 Ultra High Relief twenty, 1885 Trade dollar--the coins range from unobtainable to unaffordable. Yet the lowly, plebeian key to the Lincoln cent series ranks right up among all those patrician numismatic wonders, a superb example of a coin that is both obtainable in nearly any grade desired, and affordable by collectors of moderate means. However, few are obtainable in this lofty grade. This piece retains the original, bright yellow-red color from 1909. The strike is fully brought up and the surfaces are virtually mark-free.(Registry values: N2998)
