Description
1912 Cent, MS67+ Red CAC
The Finest We Have Ever Offered
Tied for Finest Known
1912 1C MS67+ Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Whispering Pines. Despite
being a Philadelphia issue and a relatively available coin in Red
grades as fine as MS65, the 1912 Lincoln cent is notorious rarity
in Superb Gem Red condition. Most of the pieces that have appeared
at auction within the last two decades have been Heritage
offerings, and only a few different coins in MS67 Red have surfaced
in our auctions in recent years. Moreover, we have not previously
handled a Plus-designated piece, nor are we aware of one being
offered at auction by another firm. This despite PCGS reporting
three such pieces. Equally rare CAC-endorsed Superb Gem Red
examples of the 1912, another attribute that has not appeared on
any coin we have previous handled. This means that the few finest
1912 Lincoln cents known have not actually appeared at auction yet
... until now.The Whispering Pines boasts not only a Plus designation but also CAC endorsement. It is tied for finest known of the date and is also the finest example to have yet appeared at auction. The gravity of the current offering for advanced Registry collectors cannot be overstated. Luminous mint luster and a bold strike yield rich copper-orange and tangerine hues, without distracting abrasions a tiny oblong toning spot at the obverse rim below the L in LIBERTY will serve as a pedigree marker. Population: 19 in 67 (3 in 67+) Red, 0 finer. CAC: 4 in 67, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N1793)
