1913-D Lincoln Cent, MS67+ Red
The Superb Finest Known Example
Never Before Seen at Auction

1913-D 1C MS67+ Red PCGS. CAC. The 1913-D in MS67 Red is somewhat of a ghost coin for Registry collector. Such pieces exist, but finding and acquiring one will prove to be the undoing of patience. PCGS reports two MS67 Red coins, with the present MS67+ Red as the finest known. NGC reports a single MS67 Red as the finest at that service. The NGC coin has not been seen, but all three PCGS examples are documented on PCGS CoinFacts; thus, they all exist. But the only one to have previously appeared at auction was the Whispering Pines MS67 Red, which we handled in our 2025 FUN Signature. None of the top five current PCGS Basic Registry Sets contains a 1913-D in this grade. The opportunity to acquire such a piece can be considered a once-in-a-lifetime event, or nearly so.

We are excited to offer here the finest known 1913-D Lincoln cent. It is finer than the Whispering Pines specimen, by the margin of the Plus designation, and to our knowledge has never before been offered at public auction. Beautiful, pristine copper-red luster is original, complementing satiny fields and bold struck design elements. The rims are not quite squared, and the top of the O in ONE has a touch of incompleteness, but a superior strike is typically only seen on matte proof issues of this period. For a circulation coin, this 1913-D is superb in its strike. Moreover, pedigree markers are nearly nonexistent; perhaps a tiny fleck on the middle of the first T in STATES will provide service in that regard, but it is tiny. Plate-matching this coin in the future will require close scrutiny, although its status as the finest known will perhaps render its fame above the point of needing to be plate matched to trace it. This is a coin that every advanced Registry Set collector should be bidding on. Simply no other 1913-D equals it. PCGS Population: 3 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N4719)
