Description

1917 Lincoln Cent, MS64 Red and Brown
FS-101, Doubled Die Obverse
Exceptional Toning

1917 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. Doubling on the obverse legends increases from left to right, showing strongest on TRUST and the date. While rarer than its 1955 successor, FS-101 lacks Mint State examples to satisfy demand. This Choice example displays olive-brown patina on luminous surfaces splashed with hues of plum, sea-blue and yellow-gold. Well-struck devices clearly display the doubled date and legend. PCGS shows only six numerically finer FS-101 pieces in Red and Brown, and just 11 numerically finer in Red (10/25).
