1917-D Cent, MS66 Red
Tied for Finest, Ex: Hansen

1917-D 1C MS66 Red PCGS. Ex: Hansen-Whispering Pines. This Denver issue is a tremendous challenge in high grade Red condition, rarely seen at the MS66 Red level and unknown finer. Since our Permanent Auction Archives began in 1993, we have handled a Premium Gem Red 1917-D coin on only 10 prior occasions, but six of those offerings represented just one coin, making repeat appearances. The Whispering Pines coin is new to us, and it is the first MS66 Red 1917-D we have handled in four years. The coin is sharp and luminous with satiny copper-red luster. Some thin burgundy toning lines in the right obverse field are all that provide reference for provenance tracking, as the coin is otherwise largely pristine. Population: 11 in 66 (1 in 66+) Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N2998)
