Description

1919-S Lincoln Cent, MS65 Red
Conditionally Scarce Early Issue

1919-S 1C MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Bender Collection. This is certainly an impressive example of this scarce early Lincoln cent -- conditionally scarce in spite of its hefty mintage of 139 million pieces. Only 37 Gem examples have been so graded with a mere five coins finer, and only five Gems have been CAC-endorsed (7/22). To borrow from the last auction appearance of this coin in 2011: " ... none of the striking incompleteness and muting ... often associated with this issue. Instead, both sides retain full mint bloom in a warm medium-orange hue, tinges of pale-rose color also intermingled over the surfaces. The strike is sharp throughout ... "
Ex: Baltimore Auction (Stack's Bowers, 3/2011), lot 491, where it sold for $14,950.
