Description
Elusive Red Gem 1919-S Cent
1919-S 1C MS65 Red PCGS. Ex: Jack Lee. The 1919-S cent saw a
dramatic spike in production compared to West Coast cent issues of
previous years, though paradoxically, that did not translate into
large numbers of Gem survivors. Coins with fully Red surfaces are
particularly elusive, and at the MS65 level, such pieces are
condition rarities. This attractive example offers smooth fields
and generally well-defined devices. Varying degrees of
copper-orange and peach patina grace each side, with deeper
shadings concentrated at the right reverse margin. Highly
attractive and important. Population: 21 in 65 Red, 1 finer
(4/09).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22C2, PCGS# 2521, GSID# 1861)
