Description
1922 No D Cent, CAC-Approved AU58
FS-401, Strong Reverse
1922 1C No D, Strong Reverse, FS-401 -- Struck-Through Reverse
-- AU58 PCGS. CAC. Die Pair 2. The only mint to strike cents in
1922 was Denver, and coins without a mintmark are from excessively
worn and lapped dies with the mintmark effaced. Several No D
varieties exist, although Die Pair 2 is the most sought after due
to its mismatched early die state reverse, which contrasts with the
worn obverse die. This near-Mint example displays satiny surfaces
with medium brown patina and gold and lavender accents. A large
strike-through (mint made) appears in the central reverse.
Distortion of the obverse border legends is characteristic of the
No D die.Ex: Old West & Franklinton Collections (American Numismatic Rarities, 8/2006), lot 135.
