Description

    MS62 Brown Strong Reverse FS-401
    1922 No D Cent

1922 No D 1C Strong Reverse MS62 Brown NGC. FS-401. Die Pair 2. 1922 is the only date other than 1815 without a cent production at Philadelphia. This was undoubtedly due to the unprecedented mintage of more than 51 million silver dollars struck in 1922 at Philadelphia. Nonetheless, collectors occasionally encountered 1922 cents without a mintmark, and the variety has since become a key to the series. Only a single die pair, FS-401, is known without ever showing a trace of a mintmark. It is identified by a sharp reverse and soft definition on the portrait and most of the obverse legends, though TRUST and the second 2 in the date are bold. The typical example grades VF, and Uncirculated pieces are very rare relative to the number of Lincoln cent collectors. This is a satiny chocolate-brown cent with sea-green and lilac undertones. Carbon is absent and there are no noticeable marks.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 22C9, PCGS# 3285)
