Description

1923-S Lincoln Cent, MS65 Red
No Finer Red Coins Certified

1923-S 1C MS65 Red PCGS. The 1923-S Lincoln cent claims a relatively small mintage of 8.7 million pieces and few high-quality specimens were saved by contemporary numismatists. In addition, the 1923-S was not a well-produced issue. David Lange notes, "Mushy coins from worn dies are the rule for the 1923-S." Accordingly, the 1923-S is an elusive issue in MS65 condition, and Gems with a sharp strike and red surfaces are rare.

The present coin is a delightful Gem, with unusually sharp (but not full) definition on the design elements. Just a touch of softness shows on the hair at the temple. The well-preserved original red surfaces are lustrous and appealing. Housed in an old green label holder. Population: 16 in 65 Red, 0 finer (3/19).
