Description

1924-D Cent, MS65+ Red
Major Plus-Graded, CAC-Approved Rarity
An Exceptional Registry Set Candidate

1924-D 1C MS65+ Red PCGS Secure. CAC. The 1924-D Lincoln cent is a rarity in Gem Red condition, more so than the certified population reports suggest. We last offered an MS65 Red coin in the January 2014 FUN Signature, lot 3537, where an NGC piece realized $9,400. The current coin is not only the first Plus-graded Gem Red example that we have seen, it is also the first with a CAC endorsement. In fact, CAC has awarded a green label to only a dozen Red 1924-D cents in all grades combined. Moreover, we have not handled a Premium Gem Red example of this date since 2008.

Original, frosty mint luster illuminates boldly struck design elements on this almost carbon-free Registry coin. A loupe reveals minor die wear around the outer peripheries, but the coin is overall highly appealing and unabraded. Population: 44 in 65 (4 in 65+) Red, 1 finer. CAC: 5 in 65, 0 finer (5/18).(Registry values: N2998)
