1926-S Cent, MS64+ Red
Scarce, Among the Finest at CAC

1926-S 1C MS64+ Red PCGS Secure. CAC. We have noticed a drought in the number of full Red 1926-S Lincoln cents that have appeared at auction in the past year, having seen only one such coin besides the present since late 2016. This is among the more challenging Lincoln issues with original mint luster and Red pieces are major rarities at the Gem level. Most of the coins we have handled over the years graded MS64, which is in agreement with the certified population figures that show the bulk of the Red population in this grade. However, PCGS has only Plus-graded three MS64 Red coins, and we have previously offered only one at auction -- it realized $46,000 in our Long Beach Signature sale (Heritage, 6/2011), lot 3130.

This CAC-approved coin displays smooth, satiny mint luster that is remarkably free of carbon spotting. The obverse is a warm orange-gold hue, while the reverse displays a more attractive lavender-gold tint with peach-orange accents. Mild strike weakness on the finer details of Lincoln's portrait and the lower reverse are normal for the issue and not distracting. Population: 79 in 64 (3 in 64+) Red, 2 finer. CAC: 8 in 64, 0 finer (3/18).(Registry values: N2998)
