Description

1931-D Lincoln Cent, MS67 Red
Tied for Finest Known, Ex: Martin
The Finest Example to Appear at Auction

1931-D 1C MS67 Red PCGS. Ex: Whispering Pines. This is a surprisingly scarce issue from a mintage that ranks in the "bottom 10" for numbers produced. Among Lincoln cents of the 1930s, only the 1931-S has a lower mintage. This is an important opportunity to acquire a pristine Superb Gem example of the Denver issue. PCGS has only certified three examples in MS67 Red and none finer, with NGC showing identical numbers. To our knowledge, no 1931-D cent in this top grade has ever appeared at public auction by the major firms. Lustrous orange and rose-gold surfaces yield sharp design elements and almost no imperfections. Population: 3 in 67 (1 in 67+) Red, 0 finer (11/24).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2005), lot 5365; The Jerald L. Martin Collection / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2019), lot 4084.(Registry values: N2998)
