Description

1940-S Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
One of the Elite Finest Known

1940-S 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Ex: Whispering Pines. The 1940-S example in the Whispering Pines collection is another example of an incredibly rare coin making its first documented auction appearance. Moreover, it is only the second MS68 Red PCGS example of the 1940-S to appear at auction at any firm. This despite PCGS and NGC reporting a combined total of 13 MS68 Red coins. Likely, some duplication is represented in the numbers. This piece is impressively sharp from fresh dies with vibrant satin luster. Deep copper-orange and lighter golden hues meld over each side, without spots or abrasions. Population: 8 in 68 Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N991)
