Description

1941 Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
The Sole Finest With CAC
Likely the Finest Known of the Date

1941 1C MS68 Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Whispering Pines. According to the population numbers, the 1941 Lincoln cent is a tremendous rarity in MS68 Red. PCGS lists five coins this fine, and NGC six. None of them are Plus designated. However, these top-grade pieces may be even rarer, or they are at least tightly held in little-known collections. Four of the PCGS coins are known to legitimately exist in this grade, but the Whispering Pines piece is the first to appear at auction. Moreover, only two of the NGC coins have been seen. Another well-known Registry Set, the Hansen Collection, lacks a 1941 in this top grade.

The Whispering Pines coin is arguably the finest of the top-graded examples, being the only one with CAC endorsement. Bright blond luster yields iridescence of gold, rose, and copper-orange, devoid of spots or abrasions. A sharp strike characterizes the devices, adding to the immeasurable eye appeal. Population: 5 in 68 Red, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 68, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N991)
