Description

1943-S Lincoln Steel Cent, MS68+
Sole Finest Prooflike Example

1943-S 1C MS68+ Prooflike PCGS. Many steel cents are semiprooflike, although coins with definable mirrors are rare. PCGS reports no Prooflike examples of the either the Philadelphia or Denver steel issues, and only 10 Prooflike 1943-S coins. This piece, Plus designated and virtually flawless, is the sole finest of those 10 (12/25). Fully defined details span the central devices as well as the border legends. The fields are profoundly reflective, such that the obverse has a subtle cameo effect. The field reflectivity stems from die polishing. On the reverse, faint striations remain visible, while on the obverse the fields are nearly mirrorlike, with only some lapping at the bottom of Lincoln's lapel betraying the polished die surfacing. PCGS Population: 2 in 68 (1 in 68+), 0 finer (12/25).
