Description

1944 Cent, Struck on Steel Planchet
Rare and Important Error

1944 1C Struck on a Zinc-Coated Steel Planchet -- Corroded -- ANACS Genuine. Steel-gray, whitish, and russet hues combine to make up the patina of this rare cent, with the last due to corrosion, as mentioned on the ANACS slab. While details are slightly obscured, this is one of the most important error Lincoln cents as well as U.S. error coins overall. Similar to its older sibling, the 1943 cent struck on a copper planchet, this error was produced when a few zinc-coated steel planchets remained at the bottom of the barrel at the start of 1944 cent production.
