each report only five 1944-D Lincoln cents in MS68 Red, but there
is likely duplication within these. Only one such coin has
previously appeared at auction, and we have never handled a coin in
this grade. The Whispering Pines piece yields a sharp strike from
fresh dies, with frosty copper-orange luster devoid of spotting.
