    Scarcer FS-511 Variant

    1944-D/S 1C FS-511 MS66 Red PCGS. The Cherrypickers' reference states: "This variety is the 1944-D/S that is generally quoted in various price guides. This variety is much rarer than [FS-512]." FS-511 shows the upper portion of an S protruding from the top of the primary D mintmark. The S is quite prominent, earning the variety increased popularity. This Premium Gem example displays a bold strike and frosty copper-orange mint luster. A few small flecks do not detract. Population: 14 in 66 (2 in 66+) Red, 2 finer (9/19).
