Description

1947-D Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
The Sole Finest Known, Ex: Blay

1947-D 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Ex: Blay-Whispering Pines. This 1947-D example joins the ranks of the Whispering Pines coins that are the sole finest known for their respective dates. Vivid, frosty luster yields mostly deep copper-red color, save for brighter gold around portions of the borders. A sharp strike prevails throughout, and the surfaces are pristine, devoid of carbon spotting, and nearly perfect. Only a thin linear mark on the top of the C in CENT serves as a pedigree marker on this incredible piece.

The 1947-D Lincoln cent is largely plentiful in Red grades through MS67. However, PCGS reports only 15 coins in MS67+ Red, which are typically the finest pieces available to collectors. Such coins rarely appear at auction, and they are the objects of great desire for advanced Registry collectors. However, none of them hold a candle to the Whispering Pines coin, which is the only example of the date known finer. For Registry purposes, simply no other coin will compare. Population: 1 in 68 Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N991)
