Description

1951-D/S Cent, MS67+ Red
FS-511 Overmintmark Variety
Important CAC Green Label

1951-D/S 1C Overmintmark, FS-511, MS67+ Red PCGS. CAC. FS-511 is one of two overmintmark varieties for the 1951-D cent. On this obverse, the underlying S mintmark is about centered behind the primary D, with serifs and the back edge of the upper loop showing around the exterior of the D. The other overmintmark variety, FS-512, shows the underlying S lower, protruding from the bottom of the D. This example of this former variety is nearly flawless in its preservation, showing rich copper-red centers that cede to golden-pink borders. The strike is sharp, and just a few faint flecks are seen with a loupe, not out of line for the grade, as CAC affirms. Population (FS-511): 5 in 67 (2 in 67+) Red, 0 finer (12/19).
