1955 Doubled Die Obverse Cent, MS64 Brown
CAC, Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins

1955 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS64 Brown PCGS. CAC. Millions of freshly struck 1955 cents were awaiting distribution when between 20,000 to 24,000 pieces with strong obverse doubling were errantly mixed with them. The Mint decided to release them all into circulation, and the FS-101 1955 Doubled Die cent was created. This Choice Uncirculated cent exhibits steel-brown surfaces with original Mint Red around the devices and periphery. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins. Abrasions are light, eye appeal is outstanding, and PCGS shows only 16 numerically finer pieces in Brown (11/25).
