1955 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS64 Red PCGS....
Description
1955 Doubled Die Obverse Cent
FS-101, MS64 Red
1955 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS64 Red PCGS. The Mint
was aware of this doubled die's existence in the coin hoppers
before they released them into circulation, but the quantity of
coins they would have had to destroy to ensure they captured all
examples was so great that they opted to let the coins go. Much to
the delight of collectors, 1955 doubled die cents could be found in
circulation for years following. Today, full Red piece are the most
sought after. Such coins are scarce in Choice condition and rare
finer. The present near-Gem displays a bold strike and thoroughly
lustrous copper-orange satin surfaces. No overt abrasions deny eye
appeal, and overall quality for the grade is pleasing.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22FG, Variety PCGS# 37912, Base PCGS# 2827, Greysheet# 310754)
