Splendid 1960-D Small Date Lincoln, MS67 Red

1960-D 1C Small Date MS67 Red PCGS. Just in time to quicken the young hearts of many of today's collectors, the 1960-P and 1960-D Large and Small Date Lincolns caused a sensation at the time of their release. The year also marked the first issue of Coin World in April, further fanning the flames of a speculative fervor that would last until 1965. After Coin World published the story of the varieties, fifty dollar bags of bank-wrapped BU 1960-P Small Date rolls would at one point soar to more than $12,000.
The 1960-D Lincolns were always more available than the 1960-P cents, although this piece in MS67 Red is one of only eight so certified at PCGS (9/08). Both sides of this pristine example display the splendid brick-red coloration typical of the issue.
