1984 'Doubled Ear' Cent, MS68+ Red
FS-101, Doubled Die Obverse

1984 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS68+ Red PCGS. CAC. The Cherrypickers' Guide credits Richard Allen as discoverer of the 1984 "Doubled Ear" cent variety. Lincoln's beard and bowtie also show prominent doubling. The variety is readily available in most Mint State grades, but MS68+ Red coins are undeniably rare. Just three examples are graded as such by PCGS (9/23) with none finer. The present coin appears as made aside from a solitary pinpoint tan fleck inside the obverse rim at 7:30. Distributed tiny trapped gas bubbles are usual for the issue.
