    Description

    1909 Lincoln Cent, MS67+ Red
    Top-Grade CAC Registry Coin
    Ex: Tom Mershon

1909 1C MS67+ Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Tom Mershon Collection. The 1909 Lincoln cent without Victor D. Brenner's initials on the reverse is many times scarcer than the VDB variety. The disparity is most obvious at the Superb Gem Red grade level, where PCGS has certified 371 VDB coins but just 97 non-VDB examples. Moreover, the VDB population includes 56 pieces in MS67+ Red and three MS68 Reds finer, while the non-VDB population includes only 15 MS67+ Reds and none finer (2/20). Lincoln cent specialists -- and especially Registry Set builders -- realize just how rare the 1909 Lincoln cent is in MS67+ Red, and such coins with CAC approval are the elite of the elite. This is the level at which the Duckor coin resides. Three of the top five current PCGS Registry Sets lack a 1909 of this caliber. The coin is pumpkin-gold and fully struck, showing close to perfect preservation. The surfaces are carbon-free and essentially unabraded. Population: 98 in 67 (15 in 67+) Red, 0 finer. CAC: 27% of a total 88 submissions for this issue/grade passed. 24 in 67, 0 finer (2/20).
