Description
1912-S Cent, MS65+ Red
High End for the Grade
Registry Set Contender
1912-S 1C MS65+ Red PCGS. The 1912-S is a challenging issue
to acquire in Gem or better Red grades, and high-quality Gems are
rare. PCGS reports a dozen coins in MS65+ Red, but we have seen
only four of these pieces, including the present. This example
displays satiny copper-orange luster with peach undertones and a
thin crescent of silvery color along the left reverse periphery.
The coloration is natural for the 1912-S, something that we can say
about few other Red-certified examples of this issue. The strike is
sharp, and neither side has notable abrasions. A single, tiny speck
at the back edge of Lincoln's shoulder is perhaps the most useful
pedigree marker. We have only seen a handful of finer 1912-S cents,
although the originality of this piece warrants it particular
attention as it stands above most of its peers on both visual and
technical merits. Population: 86 in 65 (12 in 65+) Red, 14 finer
(3/20).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22BC, PCGS# 2458, Greysheet# 1819)
