Description
Interesting 1778 'Anne Guye' Love Token
Early Copper Two-Sided Love Token. A well executed love token dated 1778 that may be British in origin, although the possibility of an early American tie cannot be excluded. The host coin appears to be a British halfpenny based on the size of the planchet. The main side features a marvelous double-border design with ANNE / GUYE / 1778 and ornate vines. Genealogical research could reveal more information about the subject of this piece. Two cornucopiae--surrounded by vines and flowers--are on the flip side. The intricacy of the engraving is impressive, especially when one realizes that the artist had only hand tools and daylight at his or her disposal.Auction Info
