Description

Franz II Siege Ecu (72 Asses or Sols) 1795 MS63 NGC, KM20, Dav-1592, Delm-397, Bernays/Vannerus-263. Siege/emergency issue produced during the French siege of Luxembourg (1794-95) during the French Revolutionary Wars. Though the fortress eventually surrendered after a period of approximately seven months, this coin survived the ordeal, impressively maintained in uncirculated quality since 1795. The type is very rare in Choice Mint State, and there are only two such examples certified across both major grading services, both MS63, one of which is the present piece. Glossy, with underlying luster, graced by a smooth steel patina, this standout survivor seems destined for a top-tier collection.
Ex. R.L. Lissner Collection (CNG-St. James's Auction 29, August 2014, Lot 621); Purchased from M. Louis Teller (February 2010); Stack's (April 2009, Lot 2053)
