Description

Victoria Pattern One Cent 1877, KM7, PF65 BN NGC. Again there is the question, is this a Proof or is it a Pattern? A Proof can be a Pattern, but a Pattern doesn't necessarily have to be a Proof. Some catalogues say that the non H mm 1877 coins are struck at the Royal Mint before the dies were sent to the Heaton mint for the H to be added. Others suggest that these were all struck at the Heaton mint and that the H was added after a few pieces were struck. Acknowledging die differences and die axes will help decide where these were struck. This has the coinage die axis with a small die flaw in the center of the number 1 in the denomination. There is also a light die break around most of the reverse letters, which in itself is quite telling. The fields are a superb Prooflike with a deep mahogany color.
