1596 Medal "Reopening Maritime Commerce" Silver Medal.
Betts-16B. VF30 PCGS. Mustard and steel-gray surfaces contain a
hint of rose and display grade-appropriate abrasions. This medal,
struck on a massive 52.2mm double taler planchet, commemorated the
inroads made by the Netherlands in New World trade, particularly
with the Portugese before the tensions that led to the
Dutch-Portuguese War. This particular die marriage, Betts-16B,
bears the date 1596. Other die marriages bear no date or are dated
