Description

1758 Betts-414 Medal, AU58
Fair Britannia in Copper

1758 Medal Fair Britannia, Copper, Betts-414, AU58 PCGS. 39.5 mm, 498.7 mm. The obverse is golden tan with darker toning at the peripheries, while the reverse is an even and appealing glossy dark chocolate brown despite some very fine granularity visible under a glass. Betts-414 shares an obverse with Betts-413, but in an earlier die state. Eimer only listed this variety in lead, suggesting that the copper variant offered here is a great rarity.
Ex: Baldwin's (9/2006), lot 1330; The John W. Adams Collection of French and Indian War Medals (Heritage, 1/2012), lot 3902.
