Description
1916-D Dime, MS62 Full Bands
Consistently Popular Issue
1916-D 10C MS62 Full Bands PCGS. The 1916-D dime is one of
those issues that continually generates collector excitement,
irrespective of grade. Paul Green, in a July 26, 2005 Numismatic
News article titled "1916-D Dime Still Maintains Strong
Appeal," perhaps sums it up best: "Clearly, the years have done
little or nothing to tarnish the reputation of the 1916-D. Demand
for it seems to be consistent, with some who are not collecting
Mercury dimes still wanting a 1916-D for their collection." This
reputation and concomitant demand clearly manifest themselves in
the coin's price, as it continues to climb in all grades. The present MS62 Full Bands specimen displays lustrous surfaces tinged with whispers of golden-tan, especially in the border areas. The well-executed strike transcends the Full Bands designation to encompass all design elements, including sharpness on the hair and wing feathers, the diagonal bands, and the branches and leaves on either side of the fasces. A light toning streak appears above the middle bands. A sharp example for the grade, one that should elicit spirited bidding.(Registry values: N2998)
