Description

1916-D Mercury Dime, MS62
Sought-After First-Year Key

1916-D 10C MS62 NGC. The Mercury dime made its debut in 1916 and the Denver Mint struck a small initial mintage of just 264,000 pieces, making the 1916-D the most sought-after issue of the series. Many examples were saved by the general public for their novelty value, but these pieces often show the effects of rough handling by their non-numismatic owners. As a result, the 1916-D is a rare issue in high grade.

This attractive MS62 example offers well-detailed design elements that show a touch of softness on the middle bands of the fasces. Satiny mint luster shines through delicate shades of pale gold and pink toning and only minor signs of contact are evident. Census: 15 in 62, 28 finer (2/14).(Registry values: N2998)
