Description

1916-D Mercury Dime, Dramatic MS64
Rare This Fine, Sharp and Attractive

1916-D 10C MS64 PCGS. The mintage of 264,000 pieces is just one factor that makes the 1916-D much rarer than even its low mintage suggests. The Philadelphia mintage of more than 22 million 1916 dimes satisfied the novelty of the new series, while the Denver issue was released much later in the year, and saw less demand.

Attractive russet-brown and deep aqua-gray toning gives this splendid, near-Gem '16-D dramatic eye appeal. The toning contrasts boldly with its silver centers, which are sharply struck despite the lack of a Full Bands designation. In fact, the horizontal bands are fully split save for a bit of incomplete division of the central band, and only minor flatness on the leaf overlapping the lower diagonal is seen. Bold silver luster shines through the distinctive patina, and there are no notable marks. Population: 15 in 64 (2 in 64+), 5 finer (1/19).(Registry values: N2998)
