Description

1921 Dime, MS66+ Full Bands
Impeccably Preserved Semikey

1921 10C MS66+ Full Bands PCGS. CAC. Mercury dime production was limited to the mints at Philadelphia (1.2 million coins) and Denver (1 million coins) in 1921. The mass-manufacturing of dimes from 1916 through 1920 combined with the economic downturn in 1920-21 resulted in an oversupply of the denomination, reducing the need for additional pieces. Like other 20th century semikeys, the issue's low mintage led to widespread hoarding. Examples are moderately accessible through Premium Gem condition with Full Bands, but Plus-graded coins in this grade are very rare. PCGS has awarded Plus designations to only three out of 48 MS66 Full Bands submissions, and there are merely two finer Superb Gems at that service. Additionally, CAC has stickered 15 Premium Gems and one finer (2/16).

As one would expect, the surfaces are exceptionally preserved, the only mark of note being a minute tick on the lower part of the boldly defined fasces. A hint of peripheral incompleteness is visible on 21 in the date and W in WE. Each side is satiny and toned in light champagne hues, delivering universal eye appeal. A virtually unimprovable semikey Mercury dime worthy of a premium bid.(Registry values: N4719)
