Description

The Single Finest Certified 1939-S Mercury Dime

1939-S 10C MS 68 Full Bands PCGS. The surfaces of this coin alternate between two markedly different toning schemes. The reverse is the more subdued of the two with an even blanket of silver-gray iridescence and golden undertones. The obverse displays a cornucopia of freckled orange, crimson, lavender, and green peripheral toning within which there is a veil of golden-gray patina over the center. The 1939-S is one of the most difficult issues from the 1930s to locate in fully struck Gem condition. With surfaces that have obviously been well cared over the past 61 years, it is little wonder that this gorgeous coin is the single finest certified example known to both NGC and PCGS (7/00).
From the Joshua Collection.
