Description

Lustrous Near-Mint 1942/1-D Dime

1942/1-D 10C AU58 NGC. CAC. This double-hub error is not as obvious as its 1942/1 P-mint counterpart, and as a consequence it is rarer in all grades and more likely to show considerable wear, having escaped detection for more than 20 years. Interestingly, however, unlike the 1942/1-P, the double-hubbing is also visible on the 1942/1-D on IN GOD WE TRUST, especially along the left sides of RU. The D mintmark is also repunched to the south on all genuine specimens, as here.
This piece displays just a trace of highpoint rub that separates it from Mint State. A couple of minor scrapes appear on Liberty's neck under a loupe, not terribly distracting but mentioned for accuracy. The obverse is pearl-gray while the reverse is deeper amber-gold, but much luster remains on both sides.(Registry values: N991)
