Description
Famous Strike Rarity 1945-P Dime, MS65 Full Bands PCGS
1945 10C MS65 Full Bands PCGS. The 1945-P Mercury dime is perhaps the best-known strike rarity of the past fifty years. It is not clear exactly why quality control was so poor at the Mint in 1945, but the result was that very few dimes were made with a complete split in the central reverse crossbands. This coin is well struck, and it shows full separation between the bands. Toned in a lovely pastel gray color, with apricot undertones on the obverse, there are light die clash marks (as struck) on each side, and a few tiny contact marks reside on the reverse fasces. The coin also displays pleasing satiny luster. Population: 32 in 65 with Full Bands, 12 finer (9/03).(#5057)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23KE, PCGS# 5057, Greysheet# 4522)
