1945-P Dime, MS66 Full Bands
The Key Strike Rarity to the Mercury Dime Series

1945 10C MS66 Full Bands NGC. Thirty years ago, when Harold Kritzman was on a one-man campaign to educate collectors and dealers about Full Band dimes, it came as quite a surprise to learn that the key to the Full Band series was the 1945-P. After all, with more than 159 million pieces struck how hard could it be? The intervening years have answered the question: it is extremely difficult to locate this issue in any grade with complete definition on the central bands. Of course, such a coin in MS66 is even rarer (and more valuable) with only a handful of pieces known. NGC has only certified six pieces in this grade with one finer (8/07). This is a splendid piece with thick, frosted mint luster. Just the slightest hint of toning is seen on each side with a couple of specks of deeper golden present. Essentially defect-free, the surfaces appear clean enough for an even higher grade. (Registry values: N4719)
