    Description

Four Dozen Earlier Copper Tokens, Separated from the Roberts' collection based on the appearance of being copper, these 48 pieces all seem to obviously be of typical circulating styles. These generally-crude but exotic issues exude numismatic character and appeal at its most basic level, not based on sophisticated minting machinery easily producing mass-manufactured high-quality discs, but rather local craftsmanship accomplished under primitive and often non-mechanical means. Likely mostly produced throughout many parts of Mexico, including its Southern zones, during the 1813 -1857 era, the bulk of these are catalogued with handwritten notations (some much detailed) on their paper containers. For the most part their size is 22 to 28 millimeters; the visible dates seem to range from 1773 to 1881. No duplication was noted by us, the attributions must be considered tentative and thus are not guaranteed, and the quality is likely typical for such pieces with but only one of this lot apparently holed. Most were obtained during the 1960s and 1970s, nearly half a century ago when such material was quite inexpensive and not well documented. Sold as is, NO Return.
