Missing from Most Major Collections

Guadalajara. Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1813 Ga-MR XF40 NGC, Guadalajara mint, KM163 (this coin), Onza-1203. Choice for the designation with a few minute rim nicks and mild adjustment marks on the reverse yet with limited actual wear and attractive old patina. A wholesome coin with good eye-appeal, currently the single example certified by NGC and among the finer for this crude issue seen by the cataloguer. Other comparable specimens include the ex-Caballero de las Yndias example, similarly preserved yet with no adjustment marks which sold in recent years (Aureo 4/2009, lot 444 hammered for E75,000). Extremely rare and missing in the Norweb and Eliasberg collections, and the rarest confirmed issue amongst the Guadalajara Colonial 8 Escudos (see description of the previous lot for additional commentary on this topic).
Ex. Gerber Collection (Spink America 6/1996, lot 39 for $46,200)
